About the webinar

Join JCT chair, Karen Kirkham, and vice-chair of the JCT Drafting Sub-Committee, John Riches, who will be discussing the latest addition to the JCT contract suite, the JCT Target Cost Contract (TCC).

Karen will be asking John about his role in the Drafting Sub-Committee and his involvement in the work on producing the TCC. They will discuss some of the main features of this new contract family, as well as why JCT decided to produce it, how it fits in with the rest of the JCT suite, the types of projects that might consider using it, what documents are included, and much more.

The session will also include an audience Q&A, available via the webinar interface, to enable you to ask your questions about the TCC.

Karen Kirkham is a construction lawyer at Broadfield Law LLP. She has 30 years’ experience working with JCT contracts, advising clients from all sectors of the industry. Her clients include commercial developers, occupiers, charities, local authorities, public infrastructure companies, contractors, sub-contractors, architects, and individual householders. Karen has been listed as a leading construction legal practitioner in Chambers since 2008 and regularly publishes articles on topical construction issues.

Karen’s involvement and interest in JCT goes back a long way. She is a former legal director of the Construction Confederation during a key period for the industry when major legislation, including the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 and Arbitration Act 1996, was being passed.

John Riches is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Builder with more than 40 years’ experience in the construction industry and dispute resolution.

He formed and owns Henry Cooper Consultants with a wide remit of consultancy services to the construction industry. Presently he acts as Arbitrator, Mediator and Adjudicator. He is an Arbitrator on the RICS Arbitration Panel acting both in the UK and overseas. He has carried out approximately 550 Adjudications, ranging from £5000 to £256m and covering value, liability, loss and/or expense, damages and quality.

John is a member of the JCT Board and Council, and vice-chair of the JCT Drafting Sub-Committee. He also chaired JCT’s Payment Review Working Group.

EVENT SCHEDULE

We will be live streaming a rolling animation 20 minutes before the lecture begins so viewers can check their audio and video are working correctly. Every effort will be made to start the lecture promptly at 3.00pm.

Here is a list of answers to frequently asked questions about the live stream

Can I attend the event in person?

No, the event will be solely delivered over a live stream. We hope that by hosting the event this way it is open to viewers that wouldn’t normally be able to attend the physical event due to geography and their work location.

Will I receive an email confirming my registration?

Yes, once you have registered, you will receive confirmation that your place has been secured, plus other information about the event such as the live stream URL and testing instructions.

How can I ask questions for the Q&A session?

There will be a text interface under the video stream in which you can ask questions at any point during the main lecture.

Do I need to set a password ?

No, you don’t. Once you have registered, you’ll be sent an email containing the website URL to click and access on the day of the lecture.

Can I test my device/connection before the day of the event?

Yes, you can and we strongly recommend this for ALL users. There will be very limited technical assistance available on the day of the event. Two weeks before the live broadcast, we will send out a test link to all register users and will provide technical assistance to resolve any issues with viewing the test video.

What link do I need to see the live stream on the day?

The weblink will be in the email sent to all registered viewers. You will be able to access the live stream over phone, tablet and desktop devices without having to download any additional software or apps.
